We Three Kings: The Feast of the Epiphany

Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar were the three kings(also known as the Three Wise Men) who saw the star over Bethlem when Christ was born. They followed it to find the Christ child on January 6th. They brought the Christ child gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The observance had its origins in the Eastern Christian Churches and was a general celebration of the manifestation of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. The earliest reference to Epiphany as a Christian feast was in A.D. 361, by Ammianus Marcellinus.

On the evening before Three Kings, traditionally there were prayers, blessed dried herbs would be burnt and their aromatic smell would fill the house. Doorways would be sprinkled with holy water and the master of the house would write with chalk C + M + B and the year above the house and barn door and say: "Caspar, Melchior, Balthasar, behütet uns auch für dieses Jahr, vor Feuer und vor Wassergefahr." ("CMB, protect us again this year from the dangers of fire and water.") C + M + B has traditionally been translated with Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar, however, according to the Church it stands for "Christus Mansionem Benedictat" (Christ bless this home).

MUST READ>>

There is a myth perpetrated by fruit-cake haters that says there were originally four kings, but the fourth one was turned away when it was seen that his gift was a fruit cake. Cake has become the food symbol of the day in spite of this refusal myth, and a common theme around the world where the religious and cultural heritage is Christian is the hiding of a coin, or bean, or small toy in a special cake, and the elevation of the person finding this in their slice to be king or queen for the day.

The Harvest Festival of India – Pongal

Pongal, the harvest festival of India is celebrated to thank God for the good harvest produced during the year. On Pongal, people drive away all the bad memories of the past year by burning their old items and looking forward for a new beginning.
Pongal 2012 is quite significant because of the transit in which Sun enters Capricorn on Jan 15th. This transit is a powerful opportunity to change your old ways and rewrite the rules for the next year. You will be amazed to know that even Indra, the king of heaven, rejoices during this time of abundance, fun, luxury and happiness.
  • January 14th – Bogi Festival: On the morning of January 14th, prior to the transit, is a time to clean your homes and your mind. Spiritually this means an overhaul of your current self and getting ready for a higher self.
  • January 15th – Pongal: Sun Enters Capricorn and winter comes to an end.
  • January 16th – Mattu Pongal/Cow Pongal: Pongal usually being the Harvest Festival of India is traditionally a time to celebrate the harvest and share the yield. People, cows, ants and crows are all well fed and their part in the big eco wheel is acknowledged.
  • January 17th – Kaanum Pongal: A time to gather along with family and rejuvenate yourself!

”Eh, What’s Up Doc?” -Bugs Bunny

"Yada, yada, yada" - Seinfeld

"The devil made me do it!"  - Geraldine Jones

What the world is talking about this 2012??

DOOMSDAY!

Its not that hard to figure out. If you came to this post thinking about politics, law, and all that gibberish.. Get Out now!!!

The real reason why I actually considered writing about the world's end was because that was the first thing I was reminded on New Year's Eve. Yes.. A page posted a Joke on Facebook: The world cannot end in 2012 Rajnikanth bought a laptop with a three year warranty. (Its a joke most Rajnikant fanatics would get/ Indians would.)

Now I am not one of those people who would be really interested. But guess what I started goggling and yes.. there were some mysterious and unexplainable facts :

Many talk about the predictions of the Mayans.

The Mayan Calendar
So what is the Mayan Calendar? The calendar was constructed by an advanced civilization called the Mayans around 250-900 AD. Evidence for the Maya empire stretches around most parts of the southern states of Mexico and reaches down to the current geological locations of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and some of Honduras. The people living in Mayan society exhibited very advanced written skills and had an amazing ability when constructing cities and urban planning.

The Mayans used many different calendars and viewed time as a meshing of spiritual cycles. While the calendars had practical uses, such as social, agricultural, commercial and administrative tasks, there was a very heavy religious element. Each day had a patron spirit, signifying that each day had specific use.

The base year for the Mayan Long Count starts at “0.0.0.0.0″. Each zero goes from 0-19 and each represent a tally of Mayan days. So, for example, the first day in the Long Count is denoted as 0.0.0.0.1. On the 19th day we’ll have 0.0.0.0.19, on the 20th day it goes up one level and we’ll have 0.0.0.1.0. This count continues until 0.0.1.0.0 (about one year), 0.1.0.0.0 (about 20 years) and 1.0.0.0.0 (about 400 years). Therefore, if I pick an arbitrary date of 2.10.12.7.1, this represents the Mayan date of approximately 1012 years, 7 months and 1 day.
This is all very interesting, but what has this got to do with the end of the world? The Mayan Prophecy is wholly based on the assumption that something bad is going to happen when the Mayan Long Count calendar runs out. Experts are divided as to when the Long Count ends, but as the Maya used the numbers of 13 and 20 at the root of their numerical systems, the last day could occur on 13.0.0.0.0. When does this happen? Well, 13.0.0.0.0 represents 5126 years and the Long Count started on 0.0.0.0.0, which corresponds to the modern date of August 11th 3114 BC. Have you seen the problem yet? The Mayan Long Count ends 5126 years later on December 21st, 2012.

In 2006, Mel Gibson released a movie about the Mayan civilization. "Apocalypto" follows one man's journey from slavery back to his family. During the course of the movie, a young woman prophesizes that a man will bring an end to the Mayans and wipe out their civilization. But in the real world, it's not a Mayan woman but the Mayan calendar that some speculators believe foretells an apocalyptic event. It even gives us a potential date for the theoretical downfall: Dec. 21, 2012.

OK. So this does not phase your predictions:

Try Reading this :

2012 is not the end of the world, Mayan elder insists

Finally If it does happen you might want to take some precautions:

Your 2012 guide to surviving the end of the world

And if you ask me what I think of the year 2012...  I think ... I will await another Prediction :P

Hasta la vista, baby ;)

Scorpions are well known for their intense and powerful natures. You are willful, proud and calm. You never settle and for you life is meant to be lived to the fullest or not at all. You are rarely found in the center of the activity but will always know just what is going on out of concern. Your deep sensitivity makes you the best and the most loyal friend but the same quality makes you the most treacherous of enemies. You excel at everything and anything, when you put together your energy, self-confidence, ambition and generosity toward others. You are demanding of others but will never ask someone to do what you won't be able to do yourself.

Anyways drop me a card on November 18 :P

Cheers!
