Scorpions are well known for their intense and powerful natures. You are willful, proud and calm. You never settle and for you life is meant to be lived to the fullest or not at all. You are rarely found in the center of the activity but will always know just what is going on out of concern. Your deep sensitivity makes you the best and the most loyal friend but the same quality makes you the most treacherous of enemies. You excel at everything and anything, when you put together your energy, self-confidence, ambition and generosity toward others. You are demanding of others but will never ask someone to do what you won't be able to do yourself.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITES  :D

  •  TRAIN - DROPS OF JUPITER - LYRICS

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey
She acts like summer and walks like rain
Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey
Since the return from her stay on the moon
She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey

But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And then you missed me
While you were looking for yourself out there?

Now that she's back from that soul vacation
Tracing her way through the constellation, hey
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo
Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey

Now that she's back in the atmosphere
I'm afraid that she might think of me as
Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man
Who was too afraid to fly so he never did land

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day
{ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/t/train-lyrics/drops-of-jupiter-lyrics.html }
And head back to the Milky Way?

And tell me, did Venus blow your mind?
Was it everything you wanted to find?
And then you missed me
While you were looking for yourself out there

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you
Even when I know you're wrong?

Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance
Five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet?
Did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day
And head back toward the Milky Way?

But tell me, did you sail across the sun?
Did you make it to the Milky Way
To see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated?

And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star?
One without a permanent scar
And then you missed me
While you were looking for yourself?

And did you finally get the chance
To dance along the light of day?
And did you fall for a shooting star?
Fall for a shooting star?
And now you're lonely looking for yourself out there

Holy Saturday- 23 April,2011

For All who know very little About Holy Saturday...

Holy Saturday  is the day after Good Friday. It is the day before Easter and the last day of Holy Week and Lent, in which Christians prepare for Easter. This day commemorates the day that Jesus Christ's body laid in the tomb. It is sometimes known as Black Saturday or Easter Saturday

On Holy Saturday the Church waits at the Lord's tomb, meditating on his suffering and death. The altar is left bare, and the sacrifice of the Mass is not celebrated. Only after the solemn vigil during the night, held in anticipation of the resurrection, does the Easter celebration begin, with a spirit of joy that overflows into the following period of fifty days.

GOOD FRIDAY!! - 22 APRIL 2011

Good Friday also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross.

Roman Catholic Prayers

In the Roman Rite the first part of the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord consists of the reading or chanting of Isaiah 52:13-53:12, Hebrews 4:14-16, 5:7-9, and the Passion account from the Gospel of John, which is often divided between more than one singer or reader. This part concludes with a series of prayers: for the Church, the Pope, the clergy and laity of the Church, those preparing for baptism, the unity of Christians, the Jewish people, those who do not believe in Christ, those who do not believe in God, those in public office, those in special need.

The Seven Last Words of Christ

The Seven Last Words of Christ are read from the following Bible passages:
      Father, forgive them . . . (Luke 3:34)
This day you will be with me in paradise (Luke 23:43)
Woman, behold your son . . .(John 19:26-27)
      My God, my God . . . (Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34)
      I thirst.  (John 19:28)
      It is finished! (John 19:30)
      Father into your hands . . . (Luke 23:46)

My Forensic Article in Times Life (Times Of India) :) 10April,2011

Catch the cheater!
From DNA tests to determine paternity, to analysing blood splatter to catch a criminal, there’s no getting away anymore! Purba Dutt investigates

THE sheen is off Shiney as the haplocytes render him hapless. Elsewhere, politician ND Tiwari is living the old saw as you sow, so shall you reap. He has to go through a paternity test to prove or disprove if the wild oats he allegedly sowed live in the young man who insists that the politician is his father. With increasing frequency of paternity, DNA and other forensic tests, there’s hope that this trend will rein in reckless libidos and philandering partners. In fact from slimy swamis and swindling scamsters to bungling builders, actors in action, promiscuous politicians and moonlighting mates, there’s many a slip between the mug and the fingertip that can give them away.
It’s impossible, forensic experts concur, for a criminal to act without leaving traces of some presence.
Digital proof
Take finger-printing, for instance. Modern fingerprinting techniques can not only check millions of criminal records simultaneously, but can also match faces, backgrounds and other identifiable characteristics to each perpetrator.
Gene junction
Very much like fingerprints, unless you’ve an identical twin, your DNA is unique to you. However, catching a criminal using DNA evidence is not quite easy; there are tedious scientific procedures which go along with it. (A relatively new technique — SNP analysis. Forensic scientists used SNP technology successfully to identify several Sept. 11 World Trade Center victims for whom other methods had failed). A prominent politician, now deceased, was asked to undergo a DNA paternity test in connection with a sensational murder case of a journalist, but he had
reportedly dug
in his heels. Says
eminent criminal lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, “There were DNA tests done in connection with the Swami Premananda case, but the results proved that many of the rape allegations were unfounded.”
Write hand
If your helical structures can do you in, you can also be hard done by the way you dot your ‘I’s and cross your ‘T’s. A person’s fine-motor skills can affect his or her handwriting and leave clues about the author’s identity. It relies on extensive knowledge of the way people create letter formation, which is unique, and the physiological processes behind its formation. “Many an unscrupulous builder has resorted to forgery, and it’s through their signature and handwriting analysis that they’ve been nailed,” says Jethmalani.
Drug plug
One of the commonest tests is detecting the presence of narcotics and drugs on a person. Shares Mahesh, “This is one test that is being done all the time, and there’s little that can go wrong with it, unlike the lie-detector tests where the margin of error is high, the science behind it still imperfect, and which is not admissible in a court of law.” He continues, “Just finding possession of drugs on a person is not always conclusive because there have been cases where the stuff has been planted.” The rather sudden death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson has now been attributed to drug overdose.
Red-handed!
Another interesting domain is that of bloodstain pattern analysis. Analysing blood splatter isn’t nearly as simple as fictional bloodstain pattern analysts like Dexter Morgan make it to be. The reality is different, and if there are multiple victims and multiple assailants, it becomes even more complex. But a well-trained and seasoned bloodstain pattern analyst
can often provide key information
to reveal the real crime drama.
The distribution, size and
shape of bloodstains on a
victim, on a suspect or
at a crime scene can
be crucial to the interpretation and the reconstruction of the events that produced the bloodstains.
Acid test
But how reliable really are these tests? According to those in the field, if done carefully and correctly, these tests can help recreate the crime in laboratory settings and solve the crime. Proper chain of custody, avoidance of cross-transfer or contamination and standardised testing make an investigation outcome more reliable. Says a top legal source on condition of anonymity, “Many of our forensic examiners are not above taking bribes and manipulating the results/findings. As long as that happens, we’ll continue to undermine the immense significance of forensic science in the field of investigation.”

Zombieland.. THE RULES TO SURVIVE ZOMBIELAND

I have been getting awful dreams lately about Zombie. I decided to google about "The Rules" to survive the Apocalypse. I remembered one of my favorite movies: Zombieland .. :)

The rules

A running gag, and a central theme throughout the film, is the list of rules Columbus comes up with for surviving in the zombie-infested world. By the end of the film, his list has thirty-three rules; only some of them are mentioned. A series of promotional videos starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg expanded on the list presented in the film.
  1. "Cardio"
  2. "Double tap" ("Ziploc bags" in a deleted scene)
  3. "Beware of bathrooms"
  4. "Wear seatbelts"
  5. "Cast iron skillet"
  6. "Travel light"
  7. "Get a kickass partner"
  8. "Bounty paper towels"
  9. "Bowling Ball"
  10. "(Don't) be a hero"
  11. "Limber up"
  12. "Avoid strip clubs"
  13. "When in doubt, know your way out"
  14. "The buddy system"
  15. "Check the back seat"
  16. "Enjoy the little things"
  17. "Swiss army knife"
  18. "Clean socks"
  19. "Hygiene"
In a deleted scene on the DVD, Columbus presents an alternate rule number 2 titled "Ziploc Bags".

Forensic Anthropology TV Shows

What is Forensic Anthropology?

"Forensic anthropology is the application of the science of physical anthropology to the legal process."  A forensic anthropologist can also assist in the identification of deceased individuals whose remains are decomposed, burned, mutilated or otherwise unrecognizable. This involves detailed knowledge of osteology (skeletal anatomy and biology) to aid in the identification and cause of death of skeletal remains, as well as the recovery of remains using archaeological techniques.

Bones is an American crime drama television series that premiered on the Fox Network on September 13, 2005. The show is based on forensic anthropology, with each episode focusing on an FBI case file concerning the mystery behind human remains brought by FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth to the forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan. Emily Deschanel stars in the title role, along with David Boreanaz as Special Agent Seeley Booth. The rest of the cast includes Michaela Conlin, T. J. Thyne, Eric Millegan, Tamara Taylor and John Francis Daley.  Watch Bones Full Episodes

Ash Wednesday- For a Lay Man

Ash Wednesday, in the Western Christian calendar, is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before Easter.

At Masses and services of worship on this day, ashes are imposed on the foreheads of the faithful.

In the Roman Catholic Church, Ash Wednesday is observed by fasting, abstinence from meat, and repentance

Biblical significance

Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance and it marks the beginning of Lent. Ashes were used in ancient times, according to the Bible, to express mourning.

Ash Wednesday is a movable fast, occurring 46 days before Easter. It fell on February 17 in 2010, and in 2011 will fall on March 9. In future years Ash Wednesday will occur on these dates:
  • 2012 – February 22
  • 2013 – February 13
  • 2014 – March 5
  • 2015 – February 18
  • 2016 – February 10
  • 2017 – March 1
  • 2018 – February 14
  • 2019 – March 6
  • 2020 – February 26
  • 2021 – February 17
  • 2022 – March 2
  • 2023 – February 22

What is the significance of ashes being placed on the forehead on Ash Wednesday?

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. It is a day of penitence and remembrance of our sins of the past and our ultimate mortality. Palm branches are usually burned and the sign of the cross is placed on the forehead using the ashes. Sometimes a small card or piece of paper is distributed on which each person writes a sin he wishes to be rid of. The cards are then brought to the altar to be burned along with the palm branches. The ash cross is an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins

Careers in Forensic Entomology

Forensic Entomologists are typically employed by academic institutions and not law enforcement agencies. They can provide valuable information to law enforcement, Medical Examiners, and Coroners in establishing a portion of the postmortem interval. Entomologists are experts at determining the age of insects on human remains. Such information can be extremely valuable when law enforcement investigators are attempting to establish a time frame to support or refute suspect and/or witness statements.

Forensic entomology is a young subfield, which is the application of this science to medicolegal death investigations. Forensic Entomologists estimate the post-mortem interval (PMI)—the amount of time that passes after the death of the victim. These scientists use insects to make such determinations, as well as to help reveal the probable cause, location, and time of death. Forensic Entomologists are also able to glean other valuable information by studying the insects that live on dead bodies. For example, insect evidence can be used to:

• deduce if a body was disturbed or moved after death
• identify a body by analyzing the DNA of flesh consumed by insects
• determine whether a dead individual used drugs by analyzing accumulated toxins in the insects that fed on the body
• establish whether a suspect was present at the scene of a crime
• ascertain the presence or position of wounds in badly decomposed bodies

Forensic Entomologists have expertise about the life cycle of insects that feed on decomposing flesh. They know that certain insects eat specific parts of bodies at particular intervals. Insects also develop through their life phases from egg to larvae to pupae to adults within a constant timeframe according to each insect species.

FORENSIC SCIENCE BOOKS AT DISCOUNTED RATES

 The killer of little Shepherds

A riveting true crime story that vividly recounts the birth of modern forensics.

At the end of the nineteenth century, serial murderer Joseph Vacher, known and feared as “The Killer of Little Shepherds,” terrorized the French countryside. He eluded authorities for years—until he ran up against prosecutor Emile Fourquet and Dr. Alexandre Lacassagne, the era’s most renowned criminologist. The two men—intelligent and bold—typified the Belle Époque, a period of immense scientific achievement and fascination with science’s promise to reveal the secrets of the human condition.

With high drama and stunning detail, Douglas Starr revisits Vacher’s infamous crime wave, interweaving the story of how Lacassagne and his colleagues were developing forensic science as we know it. We see one of the earliest uses of criminal profiling, as Fourquet painstakingly collects eyewitness accounts and constructs a map of Vacher’s crimes. We follow the tense and exciting events leading to the murderer’s arrest. And we witness the twists and turns of the trial, celebrated in its day. In an attempt to disprove Vacher’s defense by reason of insanity, Fourquet recruits Lacassagne, who in the previous decades had revolutionized criminal science by refining the use of blood-spatter evidence, systematizing the autopsy, and doing groundbreaking research in psychology. Lacassagne’s efforts lead to a gripping courtroom denouement.

The Killer of Little Shepherds is an important contribution to the history of criminal justice, impressively researched and thrillingly told.
