FRIDAY: DIY-Wedding decor

Pinecone Poms for Winter Weddings

Supplies
  • White styrofoam balls
  • Artificial pinecones
  • Ribbon for hanging
  • Glue gun
  • Floral pin
  • Scissors
Step 1: Prep Your Pine
We found these artificial pine cones at our local craft store, and chose of mix of sparkly, plain and frosted styles to give the pom some dimension. Heat up your glue gun. Cut your pine cones down so there’s only 1-2 inches of stem left.
Step 2: Glue and Stick
Like arranging a bouquet, work your way around the ball to push the pinecones in by their stems. Remember, it’s okay if the white of the ball shows through (like ours). Since it’s white, it’ll look like snow! To ensure the cones stay in place, dab each stem with hot glue before you push it into the styrofoam. Don’t forget to leave a small space for your hanging ribbon.
Step 3: Hang and Admire
Cut a piece of ribbon to the hanging length you desire. Fold the ends so you have a base to glue it to the styrofoam. Glue in place, and put your floral pin in for extra hanging strength. Then, fill the rest of your ball with remaining pinecones. Let everything set overnight before hanging.
Create as many of these, in as many sizes, to create a chic winter atmosphere. Then, hang on chair backs, shepherds hooks or wherever you see fit!

Thursday: Travel/ Australia-Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise is a suburb within the local government area of City of Gold Coast in Queensland,

The best things to do on the Gold Coast with kids

1. MOUNT TAMBORINE

More country than coast, a drive to this mountain village is a great day outing for families. You have your choice of hinterland hikes here, from the all-abilities-access Cedar Creek Falls track to the more advanced Witches Falls and Sandy Creek Circuits.
But, if you’re looking for less scenery and more shopping, hit the village where you’ll find antiques, artwork, cafes and boutique shopping amongst other offerings.

2. TALLEBUDGERA CREEK

This is the quintessential calm water spot on the Gold Coast. Although Tallebudgera Creekfeeds out to the Coral Sea, the clear blue water of the creek is calm and inviting – perfect for small children to splash around to their heart’s content.
With a small beach and lots of shade, you can swim, SUP, kayak, picnic and more in this little paradise. You can access the other shore of Tallebudgera Creek from the Burleigh Heads National Park for even more privacy from other creek-goers.

3. BURLEIGH HEADS NATIONAL PARK

FRIDAYS DIY: NO SEW BEACH TOTE

Materials:fabric (2 pieces that are 21×27″ each)
-ruler
Unique Stitch (The magic maker.  This is my weapon of choice for no sew DIYs)
grommet kit (1/2″ opening)
-hammer
rope (6ft total, cut into 3ft pieces for each handle, 7/16″ in width)
super glue

Fold back about one inch of the fabric on one of the sides that’s 27 inches long and iron it down.  Apply the Unique Stitch underneath the fold and glue it down, then glue the fabric pieces together face to face, making sure the edges that were previously folded and glued are matched up (this is the opening of the bag).  All three of the other edges should be glued together.
*Tip- be generous enough with the glue so that you can feel it lightly seep through the layers of fabric.  Make sure to work on a protected surface.

Thursday Travels: Wanderlust-Kauai

Unwind and let the oxygen-rich air of Kauai's Wailua River invigorate your spirit as you kayak to a cascading waterfall. Or breathe deeply at the edge of the time-swept Waimea Canyon as it speaks to you without words.

On Kauai, native fishponds amaze with 1,000-year old forward thinking, while legends of the Napali Coast transport you back in time.

From the small towns of Hanapepe and Old Koloa Town to sunny Poipu Beach, this is truly "Hawaii's Island of Discovery."

                                                                Image:Tripadvisor
THINGS TO KNOW

Like all of the Hawaiian islands, Kauai's scenery is ever changing as you head around the island's coastal roads. Your surroundings are certainly never boring ranging from sugarcane fields to rainforests, pristine beaches to ranch lands. Though the island is small by mainland standards, you can find desert plateaus, tropical rain-forest, verdant valleys, fertile farmland, and sea cliffs along the
Na Pali that will make your jaw drop. Elevation ranges from sea level to just over 5,000 feet atop Kawaikini. Kauai is home to the world's wettest location, Waialeale, which receives over 450 inches of rain annually - that's almost 40 feet! All of that water leads to the most navigable rivers of any island in the chain, the most popular being Wailua on the east coast. Temperatures range from the lower 50's in Kokee State Park to the upper 80's along the South shore. Kauai is considered to be semi-tropical and is home to a variety of micro-climates depending on your location around the island. In some places you'll need a light jacket, while in others a bathing suit is more than enough. It is also very common to be in rain one minute on Kauai, and in full sun the next.

Where to stay on Kauai?
Image:Hawaiidiscount

Good question, and luckily compared to the other islands, it's a fairly simple answer. Kauai gives you four major geographic areas to select from. In order of popularity (by our account), they are as follows:

1.) The south shore including Koloa, Lawai, and Poipu. 2.) The north shore, including Princeville, Hanalei, and Kilauea. 3.) The east side, including Kapa`a, Wailua and the county seat of Lihue. 4.) The west side including the towns of Waimea and Hanapepe. It's worth noting that staying on the west side is much less popular than the other locations.

Wednesday: Home Cooking/Scrambled Chefs Authentic Chicken Karahi Curry

Ingredients

Gluten free

Meat

  • 500 g Chicken breasts, Boneless

Produce

  • 1 tbsp Coriander
  • 1 tsp Garlic
  • 1 tsp Ginger
  • 2 Green chilis
  • 1 Red onion, medium
  • 1 kg Tomatoes

Condiments

  • 1 dash Lemon juice

Baking & spices

  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric, powder

Oils & vinegars

  • 4 tbsp Vegetable oil

Nuts & seeds

  • 1 tsp Cumin, white powder

Liquids

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Cut chicken breasts into chunks.
  2. Roughly chop the tomatoes without removing the skin and mince garlic and ginger.
  3. Heat oil in pan on medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they start to turn golden.
  4. Add ginger and garlic and cook for one minute while constantly stirring.
  5. Add the chicken to the pan and sauté (until the chicken has turned white).
  6. Add all the spices (red chili powder, garam masala, white cumin and turmeric) and cook for 30 seconds while constantly stirring.
  7. Immediately add ½ cup water to the pan to prevent the spices from burning and follow it with the chopped tomatoes.
  8. Leave to cook on medium to low heat for approximately 20 to 30 minutes or until the tomatoes have completely dissolved.
  9. Add more water and cook for 5 minutes longer if the chicken isn't tender yet. All the spices will infuse into the chicken and by the time it's tender they'll be infused into the chicken - yum!
  10. Taste and adjust spices. Add salt to taste.
  11. Garnish with green chilis and coriander before serving as well as a dash of lemon juice.
