Step Back in Time

A visit to this quaint, historic community, at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, is like stepping into the past.  Stroll the picturesque streets, visit exhibits and museums, or hike  trails and battlefields. Spend a day or a weekend.  
Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is open year round with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Park passes may be purchased at the fee collection entrance station daily.


The park's operating hours are as follows:

  • The park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Park shuttle bus hours begin at 9am daily, though the end time for buses varies by season. Please call ahead or check on the day of your visit to verify shuttle bus hours.
  • The Train Station will no longer open at 5:45 a.m. It will be open during regular park operating hours.

Fees & Passes

Entrance Fees for Harpers Ferry NHP

Park passes may be purchased at the fee collection entrance station daily.

Vehicle Pass - $10.00 per single, private vehicle (excludes group tours and 7+ passenger vans - visit the Group Fees and Reservations page for more information).

Individual Pass - $5.00 per person arriving on foot or bicycle

Harpers Ferry Annual Pass $30.00 Valid for one year from month of purchase for Harpers Ferry NHP only. Admits pass-holder and passengers in a single, private vehicle (excluding groups) or immediate family if entering by other means. Nontransferable.

Entrance passes are valid for three consecutive days, beginning on date of purchase and are required in all park areas. Fees are payable at the Entrance Station near the park visitor center, Bolivar Heights, Maryland Heights, Harpers Ferry Train Station, and River Access Parking Lot. Credit cards are accepted only at the Entrance Station.

Bookstore

The Bookshop on Shenandoah Street in Harpers Ferry is maintained by the Harpers Ferry Historical Association, which is an official National Park Service Cooperating Association. Proceeds from sales and fundraising activities directly benefit the interpretive programs of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

THINGS TO DO

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park offers a wide variety of activities for individuals and families. Explore museums and exhibits, hike to overlooks or along Civil War skirmish lines, join a ranger-guided tour or sign-up for a living history workshop. Shop at the Harpers Ferry Park Association's Bookshop for books, artwork, postcards, and items for kids of all ages. Talk to rangers and volunteers at the Visitor Center and Information Center who will assist you and answer any questions you may have. Visit us soon and discover your Harpers Ferry.

HikesDid you know the park has over 20 miles of hiking trails? The trails vary from easy, riverside strolls to four-mile hikes across Civil War battlefields to eight-mile adventures on the tops of mountains. Historic Trades WorkshopsOur living history and historic trades rangers, in partnership with the Harpers Ferry Historical Association, offer workshops throughout the year which focus upon 19th century trades and skills. Living History Event WeekendsStep back into the past and join us on living history event weekends throughout the year! These events range in topic from the War of 1812 and 19th century farming to Civil War medicine and artillery demonstrations.
