Saturday: Life Hacks- 51 Fast Fixes for Clothing Catastrophes

Shrunken sweaters…..static cling…….deodorant marks……….scuffed shoes……I could go on an on about the endless list of wardrobe malfunctions and clothing catastrophes that cause us heartburn and frustration! Often we even end up tossing the offending object thinking it’s beyond repair. STOP! Take a deep breath and read this post first! :-) There’s almost ALWAYS a cure for what ails you and your clothing and today we’re sharing over FIFTY of them!

  • Remove grease stains with white chalk. Crush the chalk and sprinkle it on the grease stain. Let sit overnight. Then brush off in the morning. The chalk dust absorbs the grease from the fabric. I also love this method for getting rid of oily stains.
  • Chalk can also help remove ring-around-the-collar. Rub the stain heavily with white chalk. The chalk will absorb the oil that holds in the dirt. Allow to sit for at least 10 minutes, then wash as usual. If that doesn’t work give this trick a try.
  • If you have a zipper that’s just tough to pull up, slide a key chain run onto the loop of the zipper. Use the ring to pull the zipper up and then loop it around the button of your pants.
  • Check out this post to see my favorite method for getting rid of grass stains.
  • Rub a piece of sandpaper on the soles of new shoes to rough them up a bit. That way you have much better traction when walking!
  • If you scuff a black shoe, use a sharpie to color in the scuff.
  • This is a great post at 11 & Chic about how to remove salt stains from leather boots.
  • When your skirt decides to start clinging in all the wrong places…look for a wire hanger and run the long side of it over your skirt, and between your skirt and tights or slip. No more static cling!
  • Use mitten clips to create a kind of stirrup around your foot to keep pants from riding up under tall boots.
